BASIS Partners with Defywire to Provide Wireless Mobility Solution to Customers

September 2003 - BASIS, Inc., a systems integrator specializing in deployment of Sun Microsystems® products and other technologies, and Defywire, Inc., a leading wireless middleware provider, today announced a new strategic partnership between the two companies to extend wireless solutions to BASIS customers through both Defywire Mobility Suite® and Picotop™ Mail.

Defywire Mobility Suite, Defywire's flagship product, extends the enterprise by providing mobile employees with reliable, secure, real-time wireless access to corporate information systems. Picotop Mail, built on the Mobility Suite platform, is an enterprise email, calendar, contact and employee information system for wireless devices and can be purchased separately or as part of Defywire Mobility Suite.

"The Defywire Mobility Suite offering will provide our customers with the ability to wirelessly and securely extend enterprise information to their mobile workforces," said John W. Olynick, President and CEO of BASIS. "Our strategic partnership with Defywire reinforces of our commitment to bring the most innovative business technologies to our customers throughout the United States."

BASIS, a Sun Microsystems iForceSM partner, recently won the "Most Innovative Solution" award, given to the iForce partner who has developed and deployed an innovative solution that uses Sun's products in a new market or in a unique way to help an end user customer.

"This newly formed relationship demonstrates the commitment of two of our iForce partners, BASIS and Defywire, to offer Sun customers the latest innovation in business technology coupled with superior services and expertise," said Gary Grimes, vice president of Partner Management and Sales at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Our relationship with BASIS brings us a valuable channel to extend Defywire's products to customers using Sun products and other technologies," said Jill Stelfox, Chief Executive Officer of Defywire. "This illustrates how leading solution providers such as BASIS have the vision to bring mobility solutions to solve their customers' business needs."

MobileInfo Comments and Advisory: While there are a number of middleware suppliers in the Microsoft and IBM-centric messaging backends (Exchange and Lotus Notes), there are only a few in the Sun world. You need the middleware and also the professional services to implement. BASIs and Defywire is a good combination in the  currently-cloudy Sun world.
