ianywhere solutions SELECTED TO POWER LEADING MOBILE AND WIRELESS RETAIL SOLUTIONS

Synposis: iAnywhere Solutions to power new solutions for leading retail vendors, including ETS, Inc., The Pinnacle Corporation and PixelPoint.

New York, NY - January 15, 2001 - iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NASDAQ: SYBS), today announced that its mobile and wireless technology has been selected to power new retail applications for several leading vendors, including ETS, Inc., The Pinnacle Corporation and PixelPoint. These partners and retailers are using the iAnywhere Solutions™ m-Business platform to develop mobile and wireless solutions that collect data at the remote points of activity for increased productivity and improved customer retention and service.

"In this era of ‘service anywhere,’ mobile and wireless systems are a key competitive differentiator, enabling customers to provide timely, convenient service and allowing them to react immediately to emerging market opportunities and challenges," said Brian Vink, vice president of marketing, iAnywhere Solutions. "We are pleased that iAnywhere Solutions technology is helping to power some of the most innovative mobile and wireless retailing solutions worldwide."

iAnywhere Solutions’ m-Business platform, which includes SQL Anywhere® Studio and the iAnywhere™ Wireless Server, provides an integrated, end-to-end software platform for extending the reach of e-Business applications, enterprise data and content to mobile and wireless devices. iAnywhere Solutions’ technology is in use across the retail industry to reduce the cost and development time for applications ranging from point-of-sale (POS) systems to inventory management and food services.

ETS Inc. Automates Tanning Salon Industry

Indianapolis, Indiana-based ETS Inc., the leading provider of indoor tanning equipment and suntan lotion to the tanning salon industry, has developed SalonExplorer, a software application powered by SQL Anywhere Studio. With this solution, salon owners save time by automating tanning bed control and maintenance. It also helps them provide better customer service because all customer data used for marketing and reporting purposes, as well as tanning package and inventory tracking, are captured in the SQL Anywhere database and immediately accessible.

"We decided to work with iAnywhere Solutions because of the company’s leadership in the embedded database market. SQL Anywhere Studio’s small footprint is ideal for our application because it provides an extremely stable database environment that is flexible, scalable and allows us to offer our software to tanning salon customers at an attractive pricing structure." said Steve Smith, vice president of information technology, ETS, Inc.

The Pinnacle Corporation Improves Distributed Data Management in the Convenience Store and Petroleum Industries

The Pinnacle Corporation of Arlington, Texas is the leading supplier of automation technology to the convenience store and petroleum industries. A number of Pinnacle’s products employ SQL Anywhere Studio -- enabling customers to better manage the distribution of critical business data between headquarters and the individual store locations. These applications range from an accounting system for fuel distributors, to an item catalog system for managing prices and UPC codes, to a sales journaling and analysis tool for capturing transaction data.

"We selected SQL Anywhere Studio over competitive products because it is more robust. Its embedded database gives us a cost effective industrial strength solution that performs very well and can run on any existing platform," said Peter Steele, senior vice president of development of The Pinnacle Corporation.

PixelPoint Launches Wireless Table-side Restaurant Ordering

Concord, Ontario-based PixelPoint, a market leader in point-of-sale (POS) software solutions for the hospitality industry, has developed a wireless POS application called PocketPOS. Using this solution, restaurants save money by maximizing table turnover and streamlining the ordering process. A simple touch of the screen places orders from a handheld device by transmitting them wirelessly to the kitchen. Updates are then sent back to the wait staff when the orders are ready – reducing time spent running back and forth to the kitchen.

"We see wireless solutions revolutionizing the way table-service restaurants do business," said Lino D’Angicco, co-founder and CEO of PixelPoint. "We chose iAnywhere Solutions’ technology for its unparalleled robustness, ease-of-use and scalability. Our customers can now turn over more business while simultaneously providing the highest level customer service."
