iAnywhere Solutions & Kada Systems Team To Simplify Development Of Enterprise Java Applications For Mobile Devices

Alliance empowers developers with first comprehensive platform for writing always available applications once for cross-platform deployment on PalmOS or Pocket PC devices

SAN FRANCISCO, CAJAVAONE CONFERENCE — June 4, 2001 — iAnywhere Solutions, Inc., a subsidiary of Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), and Kada™ Systems Inc., today announced an alliance to simplify mobile enterprise application development using JavaÔ technology. iAnywhere Solutions plans to offer support for the Kada Mobile Platform for Java (Kada MobileÔ ) through its m-Business technology platform, which provides "always available" access to enterprise data and applications regardless of whether a network connection is available. This relationship enables iAnywhere Solutions developers, for the first time, to write always available applications once for cross-platform deployment on either PalmOS or Pocket PC devices — ultimately speeding time to market.

"The tight integration of technology from iAnywhere Solutions and Kada Systems offers developers a competitive advantage when building applications for intelligent handheld devices," said James Acquaviva, CEO, Kada Systems. "The iAnywhere Solutions m-Business technology platform, combined with Kada Mobile uniquely enables always available multi-platform access to corporate data and applications independent of wireless connection status. Always available Java applications are the future of mobile computing and we’re excited to work with iAnywhere Solutions to deliver on that promise now."

"Until now, developing for handheld devices using Java technologies has been limited due to application footprint and performance limitations. Our relationship with Kada Systems marks a breakthrough in application development for mobile devices – introducing a small, fast and complete Java platform for development of always available enterprise applications," said Rob Veitch, director of business development, iAnywhere Solutions.

Always Available Access: Critical for Mobile Enterprise Computing
iAnywhere Solutions’ m-Business platform gives mobile workers the unique ability to work either online or offline so they have always available access to their data and corporate applications. This is a critical capability in the current wireless landscape, where cost, bandwidth, signal availability, and signal quality present significant issues. This always available access is essential for organizations to keep their mobile workers productive with the information they need, when they need it, while reducing costs associated with connection times. Incorporating new Java technologies like Kada Mobile for handheld devices into iAnywhere Solutions’ m-Business platform greatly simplifies the development and deployment of these always available applications across multiple devices.

The iAnywhere SolutionsÔ m-Business platform includes SQL Anywhere® Studio, the industry leading mobile data management and enterprise synchronization package, and iAnywhereÔ Wireless Studio, a comprehensive, integrated software package for extending the reach of e-Business applications, enterprise data and Internet content to mobile and wireless devices. The Kada Mobile Platform is the industry’s smallest, fastest, most complete and easily ported Java application platform for mobile devices and offers developers a single deployment platform for smart handhelds. Kada Mobile is powered by Kada’s breakthrough clean room implementation of a Java Virtual Machine (JVM), and allows developers to test, optimize and deploy applications to leading mobile environments including PalmOS and Pocket PC.
