Added Reseller (VAR) Services -
Like any other business, VARs
provide an important service to small and medium size businesses. Mobile
Computing VARs generally supply and service one or more than one product
category. Besides selling to businesses directly, they also provide
installation and training services.
The following criteria should be
used for selecting VARs for mobile computing:

Vendor authorization - being
authorized by the manufacturer to supply and service a given brand of
equipment

Sales and product training -
being able to advise customers as an expert in recommending suitable
products to suit their business needs

Service Training

Authorized service facility -
adequate number of service personnel to meet their sales volume

Broad product base or clear
indication that they represent only a subset of vendor products

Ability to provide software
selection and installation services for the hardware

Wiring and installation service

Staying Power - number of years
in business or for a new entrant substantial financial backing to have a
good probability of staying in business in a couple of years when service
needs are greatest

Good customer service policies
for warranty and RMA (return material acceptance) service
