Opens Application Communication Protocol Specs to Telematics Industry
Players; Motorola Hopes Move Will Encourage Universal Protocol for
Telematics Applications In an attempt to standardize its over-the-air protocol,
Motorola, a leading provider of telemetric systems to auto manufacturers,
announced that it is allowing public access to its Application
Communication Protocol Version 3 (ACP V3) specifications.
This move capitalizes on the wide acceptance of ACP V3 by several
European telematics industry participants.
For the last four years, Motorola has been developing and deploying
versions of ACP V3 to the leading auto manufacturers in Europe and is
currently working towards deployment in its U.S. telematric systems.
By opening access to ACP V3 specifications, Motorola hopes that
companies will adopt the protocol, making it an instrumental player in the
establishment of the telematric protocol compatible with most wireless
technologies. Telematics provides location-specific security, information,
productivity, and in-vehicle entertainment services to drivers and their
passengers.
