TECHNOLOGY

January 3 – Lucent Technologies announces high-speed (11Mbps) wireless point-to-multipoint WaveACCESS bridge for Outdoor Internet Data Networking for Enterprise and ISP’s applications

Lucent Technologies, designs, builds and delivers a wide range of public and private networks, announced the availability of its new WaveACCESS high-speed (11Mbit/s) and secure, point to point-to-multipoint outdoor wireless networking systems for large corporate complexes, campuses and local wireless Internet Service Providers (ISP).

WaveACCESS provides both IP Routing and Bandwidth Management thus allowing network managers to control their wireless networks and to add wireless technology to their wide area network.  IP Routing allows multiple local area networks in different buildings to be connected, using different IP-subnets.  Bandwidth Management enables network managers to allocate the appropriate bandwidth to each site.

“This is fast to deploy and scalable so our customers can expand the network quickly and easily as business demands,” remarked Lucent Technologies director of product and business management.

MobileInfo Advisory and Comments :  This is the first step towards even higher speeds for Wireless LAN bridges. Now you can connect businesses and businesses to ISPs using wireless network components and give users decent performance. However, the next quantum jump in this area (to 100 mbps range) is not far behind - 2 years, should we say?
