RECENT NEWS FLASH 2000-14 (May 2000) (Updated on May 8, 2000) ACQUISITIONS,
MERGERS, AGREEMENTS Nokia
and Cap Gemini to Co-operate in Delivering End-to-End Mobile Internet
Solutions Nokia
Networks and Cap Gemini have signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Cap
Gemini will integrate Nokia products, service delivery platforms, service
management solutions, and third-party customer-care-and billing systems. The
two companies will co-develop Mobile Internet applications built on top of
Nokia's service delivery platforms, such as Nokia WAP Gateway and Nokia
Artus MAX, to be offered to
Nokia’s customers. These applications will include Mobile Internet
applications over GPRS and 3rd Generation Networks.
Combing
Cap Gemini’s expertise as a telecom and Internet systems integrator with
Nokia's plug-and-play approach to Mobile Internet, the two companies will
provide operators and service providers with pre-integrated end-to-end
solutions, a shortened time-to-market, and an increase in cost-efficiency.
Nokia Professional Services offer end-to-end solutions from the planning and
building process to operating a
network, along with developing,
managing and optimizing network operations. For

Advisory and Comment: This is a good marriage (if it is that or just a friendship with multiple partners in this brave new world). Telecommunications vendors need professional services expertise - it is not just towers and base stations that carriers and service providers need - they need working infrastructure that logically connects with communications software in ISP's boxes. That network integration needs skilled resources - that's where Cap Gemini may fill the gap (we said gap, not Cap!). Note:
