Sonera SmartTrust Expands Its WAP Security Solutions To Services Based On The Emerging WAP Standards

Sonera’s data encryption unit, SmartTrust Ltd., will expand its WAP coverage to include services based on emerging standards.  SmartTrust products will cover Wireless Transport Layer Security (WTLS) service integration ensuring data confidentiality, and Wireless Identification Module (WIM) support for user authentication. The Company’s present strategy is to extend the availability of high level PKI transaction security and tamper-proof mobile identity to new user environments, beyond its current support for m-commerce.  The extended set of WAP compliant SmartTrust products, SmartSignature client and the SmartSecurity server, will be available from Q2 of 2000 for trials and more widely in the second half of the year when the first WAP1.2 handsets supporting WIM enter the market.

According to the Company, SmartTrust’s line of WAP compliant products  are applicable to any wireless service that demands strong user authentication and data confidentially, and it is a complete solution for corporations, mobile operators and end-users.
